Hurricane Vince (2005) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of hurricane Vince.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Vince originated from an occluded low that came across the Azores on October 6th. Frontal
structure with the low weakened and convection increased, and by the 8th a subtropical
storm had formed. The reason for the subtropical classification was that the system was
cold core in the upper troposphere. Eventually, the upper troposphere warmed and Vince
became a full fledged tropical storm on the 9th. It became a hurricane the same day. A
well formed eye was visible from satellite at this point, and Vince attained its max wind
wind speed of 75 mph. This made Vince the easternmost hurricane ever. Shear then
impacted Vince as it raced east, and Vince degenerated into a tropical storm on the 10th.
On the 11th Vince was further downgraded to a depression but, retained structure. Vince
passed south of Faro, Portugal and was shown to have banding by their local radar.
Vince made landfall in Huelva, Spain the same day and dissipated over Spain that day.
Vince was the first tropical cyclone to hit the Iberian Peninsula in recorded history.
