Tropical Depression 9 (2001) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical depression 9.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.


Meteorological Analysis

Tropical depression 9 originated from a tropical wave which left Africa on
September 11th. By September 16th the wave entered the Caribbean and
began to organize under favorable environmental conditions. On the 19th the
wave became tropical depression 9, about 50 nm NNW of San Andres Island.
The depression moved WNW under the subtropical ridge and made landfall
shortly after formation with its max winds of 35 mph near Puerto Cabezas,
Nicaragua. The depression dissipated over Central America on the 19th but,
elements of the depression continued west and helped form Hurricane Juliet
in the Eastern Pacific.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There were no reports of casualties or damage in association with TD 9.
