Tropical Depression 11 (1999) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical depression 11.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Tropical depression 11 originated from a tropical wave which moved off the
African coast on September 22nd. The wave moved west under the subtropical
ridge while showing little signs of development until the 30th, when a broad
low pressure formed in association with the wave over the Western Caribbean.
The low then moved slowly over the Yucatan and finally developed into a
tropical depression on October 4th, about 125 nm ENE of Veracruz, Mexico.
A surface trough located over the Gulf of Mexico prevented the depression
from strengthening into a tropical storm as the depression meandered
erratically near Mexico. Extreme rains occurred over Mexico during this time.
The depression then merged with the trough on the 6th, about 130 nm NE of
Veracruz, Mexico.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There are a staggering 400 deaths attributed to TD 11. All of these deaths
occurred in Mexico and are from severe floods caused by TD 11. It can also
be assumed that there was extensive flooding damage, although there is no
official damage total.
