Tropical Storm Mindy (2003) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Mindy.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Mindy originated from a tropical wave which moved off the African coast on
October 1st. The wave didn't raise much suspicion during its Atlantic crossing,
and entered the Mona Passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican
Republic on the 9th. The wave managed to form a low level center on the 10th
which moved across the Dominican Republic. The low level center moved north
into the Atlantic towards a weakness in the sub-tropical ridge, and began to
organize. The low became tropical storm Mindy on the 10th with 45 mph winds.
Mindy passed near the Turks and Caicos Islands but, tropical storm force winds
remained offshore, only some rain and gusty winds affected the islands.
Shear continued to impact Mindy though, and the storm weakened. Mindy
became a depression on the 12th. Mindy then recurved ahead of an approaching
trough, and dissipated on the 14th about 400 nm SSW of Bermuda.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There were no reports of casualties or damage in association with Mindy,
despite heavy rain over Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
