Tropical Storm Katrina (1999) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Katrina.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Tropical storm Katrina originated from a decaying front which was moving south
across the western Caribbean on October 22nd. A broad area of low pressure
formed in association with this front on the 26th, over the southwestern
Caribbean. The low pressure area then organized into a tropical depression on
the 28th, about 150 nm E of Bluefields, Nicaragua. The depression became
tropical storm Katrina on the 29th just before landfall just south of Puerto
Cabezas, Nicaragua. Katrina quickly weakened into a tropical depression over
Central America before emerging back over water on the 31st from Honduras.
Katrina made landfall the same day on the Yucatan and continued NW. Katrina
then emerged off the coast of the Yucatan as an exposed low level center on
October 1st and was absorbed by a cold front over the Gulf of Mexico.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There are no reports of casualties or damage in association with Katrina
