Meteorological Analysis
|
Josephine originated from a front which was parked over the Atlantic in the
middle of September. A weak surface low formed along the front on September
16th, about 750 nm east of Bermuda. Convection started to form over the low
as it drifted west, and on the 17th the low gained enough organization to be
considered a tropical depression, 620 nm east of Bermuda. The depression then
began to drift north and continued to strengthen. On the 18th the depression
became tropical storm Josephine. A trough accelerated Josephine to the NE
shortly afterwards. Josephine became extra-tropical by the 19th, while it was at
its max intensity of 60 mph. Extra-tropical Josephine merged with another
frontal system soon after transition.
