Tropical Storm Hermine (2004) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Hermine.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Hermine originated from a front that moved off the east coast of the U.S. on
August 22nd, the same front that spawned Gaston. The front stalled out on
the 24th, and by the 25th activity started to develop along the front south of
Bermuda. The activity separated from the front on the 26th and began
rotating at the mid-levels. This rotation made its way down to the surface by the
27th and a tropical depression formed 200 nm south of Bermuda. The
depression continued to organize and became tropical storm Hermine on the
29th. By the 30th Hermine reached its maximum winds of 60 mph. A trough
over the eastern U.S. then accelerated Hermine north. As this was happening,
Hermine entered Gaston's large outflow pocket. This caused high shear on
Hermine and Hermine's convection was stripped from the center. Hermine
was just hanging on to tropical storm strength when it made landfall in New
Bedford, Massachusetts with 40 mph winds on the 31st. It became extra-tropical
and was absorbed that same day. The whole storm was kinda like a few gusty
rain showers for far eastern New England.
