Tropical Storm Fabian (1997) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Fabian.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Fabian originated from a tropical wave which left the coast of Africa on September 22nd.
The wave moved westward across the Atlantic under the subtropical ridge and didn't
organize much. When the wave reached the Lesser Antilles on the 29th it was accompanied
by heavy rains and gusty winds. A weak surface low formed within the wave over the
Windward Islands but, environmental conditions didn't allow further development. The low
then moved northward and exited the Caribbean in response to a trough. Environmental
conditions improved over the low as it accelerated NE, and the low became a tropical
depression on October 4th. Despite some shear, the depression strengthened into tropical
storm Fabian on the 5th. Fabian didn't strengthen over 40 mph due to continuing shear
which left Fabian's center exposed. Fabian then became extratropical on the 8th as it
raced over the Atlantic.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There are no reports of casualties or damage in association with Fabian despite some
heavy rain in the Lesser Antilles.
