Tropical Storm Emily (1999) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Emily.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Emily originated from a tropical wave cluster which moved off the African coast
between August 14th and 19th. The individual waves interacted with each other
as they crossed the Atlantic, eventually spawning Cindy, Emily, and Dennis.
The wave that spawned Emily moved WSW towards South America with some
vorticity evident. The wave organized enough by August 24th to be considered
a tropical depression, about 360 nm E of the Windward Islands. The depression
quickly strengthened into tropical storm Emily the same day, and reached its
max intensity of 50 mph with a pressure of 1004 mb as well. Hurricane Cindy
then approached Emily, and the outflow as well as the inflow from Cindy
sheared Emily. Emily hung on as a non-strengthening weak tropical storm
for a time, before being absorbed by Cindy on the 28th.
