Tropical Storm Edouard (2002) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Edouard.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Edouard originated from a frontal system parked over the Atlantic in late
August. On August 25th, a low level system formed along the front and started
to generate convection. The system initially moved SW around a trough, and
when it was several hundred miles north of Puerto Rico convection began to
increase some more. The system then moved west, and started to really
organize on the 31st. By September 1st the disturbance organized enough to be
considered a tropical depression, 120 nm east of Daytona Beach, Florida.
Despite some shear, the depression strengthened into tropical storm Edouard by
the 2nd. Shear then became much more hostile but, Edouard was able to
reach its max winds of 65 mph on the 3rd with a pressure of 1002 mb.
Immediately after Edouard reached its max strength, shear combined with dry
air and began to rapidly weaken Edouard, and Edouard's center became exposed.
The initially weak steering currents that affected Edouard soon gave way to
the storm moving slowly SW. Shear continued to impact Edouard, and Edouard
was barely a tropical storm with winds of 40 mph when it made landfall in
Olmond Beach, Florida. Edouard weakened into a depression right after landfall
and emerged into the Gulf of Mexico near Crystal River, Florida on the 5th.
Shear associated with Fay then began to impact Edouard, and Edouard
degenerated into a remnant low on the 5th. Edouard was then absorbed by
tropical storm Fay.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There are no casualties attributed to Edouard. Some minor flooding occurred in
Central Florida due to Edouard's rains but, there are no official damage totals.
