Meteorological Analysis
|
Ana originated from an interaction between a trough and a frontal system. On
April 19th a trough pushed south, and caused a non-tropical low to form along
a surface frontal system about 210 nm SSW of Bermuda. The low moved in a
small loop through April 20th, ending in it moving eastwards. Sporadic bursts of
convection occurred during this time. The low then separated from the frontal
system on April 20th while becoming better organized, and became sub tropical
storm Ana. Ana then continued to organize and develop convection over its
center. On April 21st, Ana became a full fledged tropical storm and reached its
max winds of 60 mph. Ana then turned ENE by the 23rd, and merged with a cold
front on the 24th as it weakened. It was 810 nm E of Bermuda at the time. Ana
then continued with winds of about 40 mph as an extra-tropical low along the
front. Ana was finally absorbed by the frontal system on the 27th between the Azores and Portugal. Ana was the first full fledged tropical storm in April on record.
